Charitable Aims
Lt Richard AbbotName: Lt Richard Abbot

Age: 28

Occupation: I am a Hydrographer and Meteorologist onboard HMS ENDURANCE. Currently that means I have the responsibility for forecasting the weather for our two Lynx aircraft. My other main responsibility is as an Officer of the Watch which means I am delegated charge of the ship to maintain ship safety, safety of the ship’s equipment and all personnel onboard. Since joining the Royal Navy in September 2001, I have loved every minute of it.

Home Town: Southend On Sea, Essex

Excited about: Exploring the Antarctic from a completely different perspective other than driving a 6500 tonnes ship.

Biggest challenge of the Expedition: The biggest challenge will be the weather. It is so unpredictable in that area that we may be lucky and have superb weather for the whole of the expedition or we may be unlucky and experience poor weather causing delays to our progress.

Hope for the Expedition: I hope that we can inspire others to try something out of the ordinary and in doing so raise money for the Ship’s charities.
