History

The main language of Argentina is Spanish. This has remained from when the
country was a Spanish Territory. Argentina’s independence from Spain came in
1816. The capital of Argentina is Buenos Aires, in the Pampas region. It was
founded in 1536 and is now home to approximately 16 million people, about 40%
of the country’s population. As with Buenos Aires, many of the towns and cities
of Argentina have names of Spanish origin. The overall population is now in
excess of 38 million people, with the majority living in the fertile Pampas
grasslands area.
