The Falkland Islands have a population of approximately 2200 people. Compare this to the Isle of Wight, which may be three times smaller, but has a population of around 134,000. About two thirds of the Island’s people live in the capital, Stanley. The remaining population live in small settlements in the countryside, or ‘camp’. The Falkland people often refer to themselves as ‘kelpers’. A name adopted from the seaweed they used to harvest. The religion of the Islands is Christianity and the language spoken, as you may expect, is English.
