About HMS Endurance
Introduction

Because the weather varies enormously throughout Antarctica, living and working there is very difficult. In some parts, during the summer, average temperatures can reach just above freezing in the northernmost coastal regions; while during the winter at the South Pole, the temperature can be a ff-freezing -59ºC.

Many people like the crew of HMS Endurance work in Antarctica's extreme conditions. Although they have modern equipment to help them, their time in Antarctica is still dangerous because of the hostile weather conditions that they have to face.

However, unlike the early explorers to Antarctica who had very little knowledge about what kinds of clothing is most effective against Antarctica's extremes, today we have a greater understanding of how the human body works in the cold. Here is our guide to polar clothing and some tips on how to survive in Antarctica.
