Remembrance Day - Introduction
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Laurence Binyon
This year, as every year, The Royal British Legion will ask that you wear a poppy to show that you remember and care for the people who have served their country through the British Armed Forces.
While we use Remembrance Day to remember those who have been killed during war, it is also an occasion to think about the British men and women who continue to serve their country in one of the many countries around the world that have seen conflict. The British Legion doesnt advocate war but is simply there to support serving and ex-service men, women and their families in their time of need.
Today, British Armed Forces continue in the tradition of those who served before them. They continue to put their lives at risk in peace keeping or peace enforcing operations around the world in order to defend Britains values, and to contribute to world peace and security. Our commitment and skills as peacekeepers has gained Britain respect and influence the world over.
We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.
Sir Winston Churchill
In this change to our normal material, we have explained the history to Remembrance Day and ask that you wear a poppy on November 11th to show you remember and care for the people who have served their country.
