The Edinburgh Cow

Herd the Moos? HMS Endurance has acquired a stowaway from CowParade, Edinburgh!

CowParade, is the world’s largest public art event. This one of a kind spectacle is a fantastic collection of life-size fibreglass cows strikingly painted and decorated by the best designers and artists from cities around the world.

Cowparade
CowParade

Dedicated to promoting public art, by bringing together artistic, business and local communities, in a creative partnership for the enjoyment and participation of everyone, CowParade has been hosted by more than 25 major cities around the world.

“Art is about breaking down barriers. It gets people to feel, to think, to react. So when you come across life-sized cow sculptures that have been covered in mirrors or gumdrops, cows that have been painted with elaborate themes or transformed into something else entirely, you can’t help but stop and think what it means. All your perceived ideas go out the window. Suddenly people see that art can be fun and that art can be interesting to everyone, not just people who frequent museums”.
Peter Haig – CowParade Event Organiser

But the cows have an “udder” job to do. After each exhibition, selected cows are auctioned to benefit charitable and not-for-profit organisations.

This summer CowParade came to Edinburgh and in doing so supported two important Scottish based charities; Lord Provost’s charity, The One City Trust which works through partnership and inclusion to support a wide range of community projects in Edinburgh and Vetaid, which works to alleviate poverty through sustainable farming in the developing world.

While you might think cows enjoy having a quiet life, two CowParade Edinburgh cows have decided that a life of chewing grass and standing in a field is not for them. Having decided that they wanted to travel the world and take part in daring adventures, one cow has joined HMS Edinburgh and participated in naval exercises in the Baltic and another cow has stowed away on HMS Endurance.

Stowaway Cow
Stowaway cow on HMS Endurance

Navy Cow on HMS Edinburgh has already visited the German fleet and is currently enjoying life on the high seas. But what sort of adventures will the stowaway cow have on HMS Endurance? Will she embrace visiting Antarctica as one of life’s moo-mentous experiences?

To fully meet HMS Endurance’s adventure-seeking cow and roving ambassador for the promotion of CowParade, please watch our cow moovie.

Our cow also needs a name. Any ideas?
