EVENT 2 – NBCD IT’S A KNOCKOUT

Event 2 of the 06-07 Deployment saw six teams raring to compete for more points towards the Deployment Cup.

The latest event in the competition was the `NBCD It’s a Knockout’ competition with teams from all of Endurance’s Depts. For those of you who haven’t a clue what this means, let me explain the term.

The theme is NBCD which stands for Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defence. We use NBCD techniques and procedures to keep the ship safe whilst at sea. The term NBCD is also used to describe all emergencies on board Royal Navy Warships. The Ship’s Company are all fully trained and all have responsibilities in event of an emergency. However, as you can see if you have a fire or flood it doesn’t involve anything NBCD!

For our `NBCD It’s a Knock out’ event, we combined aspects of our training with techniques that would make the event fun for all.

NBCD Its a Knockout

Six stances were set up and each team had to conquer each stance to the best of their ability. To ensure no interesting interpretations of the rules and fair play, each stance was manned by at least one judge (name in brackets) and points were awarded to the teams as they completed each challenge.

Here are the Stances:

STANCE 1 - Quarterdeck for re-entry procedures, re-entering the Cofferdam airlock and pumping out the water using a portable eductor. (Chippy/LMEM Bates)

STANCE 2 - Mezz deck for shoring techniques and shoring in the vicinity of the Artic Fire Locker. (LMEM Cunningham)

STANCE 3 - Flight deck for the use of the Fire Fighting Helmet, Built in Comms, including the correct comms checks. (PO Luke)

STANCE 4 - Stbd side Forecastle for Centre Feed Hose reel drills. Port side Forecastle for casualty handling. (MO/POMA)

STANCE 5 - Magregor Hatch for memory test. (Buffer)

STANCE 6 - Once only suit dressing drills on hangar roof. (LS Ross)

All teams had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, and the winning team was Flight, with the Engineers coming in a close second. Here are the final results:

1st - Flight
2nd - Engineers
3rd - Executive & Royal Marines/Survey Recorders
5th - Logistics
