WINTER OLYMPICS - ROTHERA WEDNESDAY 17TH JANUARY 2007
The Rothera Winter Olympics is an annual event, keenly fought between the ships company of HMS Endurance and those living at the base in Rothera.

This years event dawned with blue and sunny skies. Snow conditions were assessed early in the day by HRH The Princess Royal.

At noon all competitors began the 5km trudge to the venue, situated on a hill behind Rothera base. For those lucky enough to catch one, there were ski-doos pulling four man wooden sleds.
Kit was issued from a tent at the base of the slope and events began in earnest at 1400 with the down hill ski. This was won for the ship by Lt Chisholm with LCpl Hutchison coming a close second.

Other events were the ski slalom, snow board, cross-country ski, snowball throwing competition, snow golf, ice-sculpture, luge and individual sledge.

Diver Haig was victorious in the luge, the Warfare Department won the ice-sculpture competition and the Royal Marines won the individual sledge competition. Other events were won by BAS making it a close run competition.
